BOATING SAFETY | QUEBEC SAFE BOATING WEEK

BOATING SAFETY | QUEBEC SAFE BOATING WEEK
During Safe Boating Week, June 16-22, the members of our Boating Unit are joining with our many partners to remind everyone that the best flotation device to have is the one you wear.
Despite of all the publicity surrounding the flotation vest, our agents still notice that it is the basic rule that is most flouted. During stops, it is not uncommon for our staff to notice that there are either no vests at all or not enough for everyone on board.
On another note, our officers also notice an emerging trend that involves several risks to navigation. This is the phenomenon of inflatable boats on the Gatineau River where dozens of these boats are found on the river forcing boaters to go around them. It should be noted that these types of boats (tubes or other inflatable objects) are subject to the same nautical regulations. That is to say that every person on board must have a flotation jacket in good condition and adapted and a whistle. If the life jacket is not worn, then other equipment is mandatory.
Last year, our police officers made more than 20 patrol, boarded 466 boats, gave 162 warnings, expelled 106 boaters and issued 4 fines.
In closing, it is important to remember that anyone operating a motorized pleasure craft, whether gas or electric, must have a Pleasure Craft Operator Card or equivalent. For more advice, we invite you to consult the following: https://cutt.ly/xnKXkl0
